Horsham District Council is alerting businesses and the public to an illegal meat seller marketing products on Facebook.

Meat including beef, lamb, veal and goat has been processed in an unregistered and unapproved establishment in the Wiltshire area, leaving the products it sold unsafe for consumption, the council said. The affected products have been advertised under the brand names Ushqime Organike, Bio UK; Ushqime BIO UK; Ushqime BIO; and Wiltshire Farm Products.

A spokeswoman added: “It is unclear if any of the meat has been purchased by businesses or members of the public in the Horsham District, but it is understood that the distribution has been across England nationally.”

Horsham District Council cabinet member for community matters and wellbeing councillor Tricia Youtan said: “People selling unregulated food in this manner are putting the health of the general public at risk, as it is unlikely they would meet the required food and safety standards.

“The rules around the production and selling of food are strict for a reason.

“I would urge residents to be wary of these types of sellers as the adverse health effects could be very serious.”

People who believe they may have purchased meat from this business before January 15 must not consume it, but should put it aside, well-wrapped in the fridge and contact the council’s environmental health and licensing team for further advice, the spokeswoman said. The environmental health and licensing team can be contacted by emailing [email protected] or by telephoning 01403 215 100.
