June 1988 photo in Worthing Herald and Littlehampton Gazette identified as Drama 80 production

We published pictures from June 1988 in the print editions today and one in particular immediately caught the eye of Flix Gillett.

He recognised it as the cast of the play The Boy with a Cart, about St Cuthman, the saint associated with Steyning.

He said: "Looking at your photos today in Retro, I recognise the historical re-creation photo. This looks like a production from Michael Edgley’s Drama 80, which was a children’s / youth theatre company in the 1980s that put on shows at the Windmill Theatre in Littlehampton.

"The older boy holding the wooden yoke is Stephen Pannell, who started in the company as an actor and went on to become an assistant to the director. The boy under the yoke on the right is Steve Thompson. The girl on the far right I believe is Fiona Sandiford."
