Crawley hockey in 1989 was the Pauline and Maxine show

There was a time when a flick through the back pages of the Crawley Observer would always throw up the names Pauline Dempsey and Maxine Gaylor.

When you saw those names you knew Crawley Ladies hockey team had stomped all over their unfortunate rivals, because Pauline and Maxine were good – Dynamic Duo good!

Of course, they didn’t do it alone, and the rest of the ladies – complete with unmistakable 80s hair – are pictured here.

These photos were published on January 18 1989 after Crawley had demolished South Saxon 7-0, with Maxine opening the scoring and Pauline putting away the other six goals. Not a bad afternoon’s work.

Among the team were: Linda Palmer, Darryl English, Debbie Polhill, Marilyn Roach, Carina Miskin, Jackie Cutts.

Can anyone name the rest of the team? Are any of the Crawley Ladies still playing?
