January is traditionally the time many of us turn our thoughts to holidays – a little summer sunshine, a city break or a luxury cruise somewhere.

If you can imagine yourself cruising the med, sailing down the Danube, enjoying a fully guided tour of some of the world’s most famous cities and sites, or totally unwinding on a warm and sunny beach with all possible luxuries then you won’t want to miss this event.

It’s free to attend – all you need to do is register for your tickets which include free parking, free coffees and teas and even transport from the car park to the exhibition for anyone with limited mobility.

Stately home setting

The exhibitors till come together on Sunday January 28 at the stunning stately home, Stansted House near Rowlands Castle in Hampshire. There will be individual exhibition stands by a host of different companies, where you will be able to talk to holiday experts, pick up brochures and information. There will also be a series of 20-minute talks by all the main exhibitors, which you will be welcome to attend. Different types of holiday providers – eg city breaks or ocean cruises – will be separated into different areas making it easy to find the type of advice you need.

And for those attending on the day, there will be plenty of special offers available should you choose to book there and then.

A full day out

As well as the Expo – which will be open to visitors over four hours – there is plenty more of interest in and around Stansted House itself, making it perfect for a grand day out.

The house and Stansted Park was bequeathed to the public in 1983 by the 10th Earl of Bessborough. It now inclues a tearoom and garden centre and a Farm Shop.

Anyone interested in the house itself will be able to enjoy talks and visits guided by members of the house staff. Or you may wish to walk around the grounds, visit the tea rooms for more refreshments or lunch, or shop in the farm shop or garden centre.

Mobility and parking

There is a limit to the number of people that can be in the house at any time – 175 guests. There should be plenty of time to accommodate everyone though, but booking a free ticket is essential.

There is free parking for all those attending the Expo and a separate parking area will be available. It’s a couple of minutes’ walk from the car park to Stansted House, but accessibility experts Mobility at Sea, will be on hand to demonstrate a range of mobility aids for cruise ships and will be offering transport to and from the house for those who need it.

Mobility at Sea work with a number of cruise ship companies and can hire out equipment and adapt rooms so that passengers with any needs – be it wheelchairs or hoists, special beds and bathroom adaptations – can be accommodated on cruises and holidays.

The house itself is an older building – but it does have some adaptations and lifts and so is accessible by wheelchair life and an inside passenger lift. However it cannot accommodate large powered wheelchairs, so people are advised to call ahead to discuss specific needs to avoid disappointment.
