Despite its name, the house is not thatched but instead takes its name from its former life as a beer house. The original cellar and steps down are still being used to this day and at the bottom of the step there is a dip where the barrels would land and over the years has worn the brick accordingly. The cellar is dry, houses the oil fired boiler and also provides a useful multipurpose space.
