The property has been extended and modernised by the present owners over the years, to provide three lovely reception rooms, bright and spacious kitchen breakfast room and three good sized on the first floor bedrooms. For someone looking for a property that could possibly provide a small income, there as an attached one bedroom annexe, alternatively, it could be used as guest accommodation, yet, retaining much of its character and charm. It also has a fascinating history dating back, we believe to around the 1820s and was originally a beer house, which was closed in 1967 when the landlord Mr Walter Herrington, then aged 86 and having been there for 56 years was deemed to be too old. Friary Meux, who owned the property, surrendered the licence and Mr Harrington was allowed to stay in the property rent free until alternative accommodation was found.

Despite its name, the house is not thatched but instead takes its name from its former life as a beer house. The original cellar and steps down are still being used to this day and at the bottom of the step there is a dip where the barrels would land and over the years has worn the brick accordingly. The cellar is dry, houses the oil fired boiler and also provides a useful multipurpose space. The gardens have been lovingly developed by the current owners with formal and informal areas which have beautifully landscaped and incorporate terracing down to the Amberley Wildbrooks.
