A celebration of Britishness

Members of Boxgrove Priory choir will be joined by friends and fellow singers at a musical summer celebration of Britishness.

Contemporary British composers will make up the programme when the specially-assembled choir makes its debut performance at St Mary’s Church, Barnham on Saturday, June 30 at 7.30pm.

David Bathurst came up with the idea and devised the programme with musical director for the night, Janet Reeves.

“I thought it would be rather nice - at this very British time when we think of the Diamond Jubilee and the summer Olympics – to do a concert of contemporary British music in a typically-English church,” David said.

“All of the pieces are written by British composers that are still living – pieces that are all extremely singable and very accessible.”

The main piece will be John Rutter’s Requiem. Rutter’s Look At The World will also feature, as will pieces by Howard Goodall, John Tavener and Karl Jenkins.

And if all goes well, David says he would like to think that there might be future outings for the choir.
