Comedy among friends

Matt’s Comedy Club Worthing returns with another night packed with family-friendly mirth on July 26 when top writer and performer Paul Kerensa is the headliner.

Paul has been gigging steadily around the UK and Europe for at least the last ten years, picking up a number of awards with his genial mix of gags, clever observation and themed shows at the Edinburgh Festival.

In recent years he’s become one of the go-to team for BBC comedy with writing credits on award-winning shows Miranda (with Miranda Hart) and Not Going Out (with Lee Mack and Tim Vine), plus regular contributions to Radio 4’s The News Quiz, The Now Show and Dead Ringers.

Show organiser, club host and MC Russ Bravo said: “Support act is the inimitable Edward Aczel, described as Mr Anti-Comedy, an act that takes great delight in deconstructing the art of stand-up and reassembling it into a strange but hilarious beast that defies description. You just need to see him.”

Aczel is a project manager for a marketing company in Aylesbury, who has been performing comedy in his spare time since 2005. He has been runner-up in the BBC New Comedy Awards (2005) and semi-finalist in So You Think You’re Funny (2006). More recently he has appeared on Radio 4’s Loose Ends, Happy Mondays, Pick of the Week and 28 Acts in 28 Minutes.

“Expect additional local acts and special guests, all corralled into an evening of top class entertainment.”

Russ added: “The show will be at a new venue for Matts: The Empress Suite (top floor) at 32-34 Marine Parade on Worthing seafront. It’s an 8pm start and tickets are just £8 from local outlets Parklife, Green Cuisine, Sticky Drawers, Music Mania, Eclipse Cafe Bar and St Matthew’s Church office as well as online at www.wegottickets.com/MattsComedyClub.
