New theatre production skills courses to launch at the Bognor Makerspace

Experienced training enterprise, Making Theatre Gaining Skills has just been awarded funding by West Sussex County Council to run a series of exciting creative courses which will be free of charge for adults aged 19 or over.

The four weekly classes will be led by experienced arts practitioners, and will offer the unique opportunity to gain advanced practical skills and enjoy working as a group on creative projects. Open to anyone, regardless of previous experience or qualifications, the courses will be perfect for people wishing to explore and develop their creative and technical skills. The courses will include:

  • Puppetry
  • Lighting, Sound and Visual Effects
  • Costume and Prop Construction
  • Scenic Design and Construction

Hilary Strong, Director of Making Theatre Gaining Skills said: “We’re very excited to be launching this new programme of creative courses and looking forward to meeting a new cohort of participants. We’ve been running a wide range of courses in West Sussex since our very first programme in 2012 and progressively becoming known for the high quality of our teaching and performances. These courses will be ideal for people who are interested in a career in the theatre, would like to try new skills or simply want to enjoy working in a team on creative projects.”

Making Theatre Gaining Skills is a resident company at the Bognor Makerspace, 58-60 Longford Road, Bognor Regis PO21 1AG which is wheelchair accessible. The company also runs courses in carpentry, cooking, maths and fabric as part of the Multiply programme, and organises the Bognor Puppet Festival. They have produced over 30 puppet shows for small children and supported hundreds of participants through their popular production courses.
