3 injured in crash

FIREFIGHTERS worked under difficult conditions to cut two out of three casualties from the wreckage of a car.

The driver, a 20 year-old local man, and his passengers, a young man and a young woman, were taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital with injuries which police later described as serious but not life-threatening.

Their Honda Civic came to rest with a tree over its bonnet in Watermill Lane last Thursday evening.

Fire, police and ambulance attended.

Because of the tree over bonnet and a ditch by the driver's door, firefighters were unable to adopt their normal rescue procedure and cut the roof off the Civic. Instead, they cut the rear and intermediate pillars and bent the roof forward to give paramedics access to the injured.

The accident happened at about 7.50pm near Cobbs Hill Farm.

Police say the exact circumstances of the crash are not clear and are appealing for any witnesses to contact the Road Policing Unit at Polegate on 0845 6070999.
