The driver, who has not been named, was travelling to Goring-by-Sea to collect the bride from her home when a Hawker Hunter fighter jet plummeted from the sky and burst into flames on the busy road.

Photographs emerged of the luxury Daimler with its roof ripped off but the condition of the driver, who was believed to be inside the vintage car at the time, is not yet known.

The bride was taken to her wedding at Findon Manor by the photographer after the limousine failed to arrive, but only found out what happened after seeing photographs of the car’s wreckage in the news after the ceremony.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Rebecca Asekaran said: “My thoughts are with the families and we want to know how the driver is.

“The wedding wasn’t ruined, it was beautiful, it was lovely.”

Mrs Asekaran’s father saw news of the unfolding tragedy on his iPhone during the wedding. He said: “I looked on my iPhone and saw a picture of the carnage and could pick out the car that was meant to be here.”

The mother-of-the-bride, Margaret Sheen, also told The Mirror: “We knew there had been a crash. The wedding went ahead. The photographer took myself and the bridesmaids and my husband went with some of others.

“It went ahead as planned but I don’t want to say anything more about it.

“My daughter is very upset about it.”

Mrs Asekaran and her husband Rajendran declined to comment any further until they received news of the driver’s condition.
