The church, dating back to before 900AD, is just half a mile from the site of yesterday’s crash.

Jeannette Simpson, a member of the church council, said: “A minute’s silence will be observed before each of the services today.

“A candle was lit for each of those who died in the tragedy and prayers were said for the victims and their families.

“If anyone wants somewhere to sit quietly and remember the victims and the bereaved, the church is always open every day for private prayer and meditation.”
