Arson attack at village school

ARSONISTS caused tens of thousands of pounds damage to a portable classroom used by year two pupils at Barcombe Primary School.

The incident happened at 4.45am on Sunday morning.

Barcombe fire fighters sped to the scene and found the building, containing the 19 pupils' classwork, well on fire.

They succeded in putting it out but the children are not being allowed to return to the main school until Wednesday, rather than the expected Tuesday.

Poiice said someone had set fire to a nearby rubbish bin and the blaze quickly spread.

On Monday, staff, who were having an inset day, were going through salvaged materrial but it was at once clear that the pupils' special presentation work had been lost.

The children will be accomodated within the main building.
