Arun chairman Ann leads the race for charity joy

“DIGGING deep” seems to be a motto that Arun District Council’s chairman Ann Smee is certainly living by.

Ann, alongside her husband Bill, showed her commitment to raising funds for good causes this year, by pledging £1,000 of her own cash to help get the ball rolling during charity do, next month.

She will be hosting the Arun Chairman’s Charity Race Day at Fontwell Park Racecourse, on Sunday, September 9, to generate much-needed cash for her chosen good causes, Combat Stress and the National Osteoporosis Society.

Ann said: “I am passionate about raising funds for my chosen charities and that is why Bill and I have pledged our own money.”

Arun’s chief executive Nigel Lynn praised Ann and her husband for the generosity and commitment to charitable causes.

He said: “Ann and Bill are so committed to raising funds for these worthy charities so I am delighted that our joint efforts have secured sponsors. I am really looking forward to supporting our chairman at Fontwell,which promises to be a fantastic afternoon.”

The event, sponsored by Harbour Park, Arun’s Unison branch and ISS Facility Services, will see special guest and EastEnders actor Derek Martin, who plays Charlie Slater, making an appearance.

The action kicks off at noon.
