Arundel’s tug of war set to pull in the crowds

ONE of the surprise big attractions at last year’s Arundel Festival was the tug of war held by the King’s Arms pub, reviving an old tradition and such a success that it was bound to become an annual event.

The tug of war brought Tarrant Street to a standstill as hundreds of people gathered to watch teams from the town’s pubs battle it out, and in the close-fought contest the King’s Arms’ own team were crowned as the victors.

This year, the pub is determined to retain the trophy it won in 2013 and the tug of war is expected to attract more teams than in 2013 when it takes place at 3pm on bank holiday Monday, August 25.

It will be part of the King’s Arms Fête in aid of the Snowdrop Trust, starting at midday.

This will feature stocks, play your cards right, a cake stall, face-painting and lots of traditional attractions – great fun for all the family.

The pub will be busy with events throughout the festival, starting with a general knowledge quiz in aid of the RNLI on Tuesday, August 19, at 8.15pm, for teams of up to four.

And on Thursday, August 21, it will be the King’s Arms famous ABBA on the Hill event, which has a huge cult following. It starts at 8pm and there will be food from Bocca Loco.
