Battle man issues warning following scam lottery letter

Brian Roberts, from Battle Gates, received the letter purporting to be from the People’s Postcode Lottery on Tuesday.

The official-looking letter, which was written on headed notepaper, told Mr Roberts he was one of a number of lucky winners.

Suspicious, Mr Roberts contacted police, who confirmed the letter was a scam.

Now he wants to help others who may potentially fall victim to the scammers.

Mr Roberts said: “I have been told by the police it’s a scam.

“It looks so official, I’m worried some people may be taken in by it.

“On this letter it said I was one of the first out of 200 lucky winners.

“But I know it’s a load of codswallop.”

He added: “I know people in the past who have been drawn in to these things and it’s cost them money.

“I just want people to be made aware.”

Copies of the Little Book of Big Scams, which includes information about how to spot a scam and how to protect yourself from con artists, are available from Battle Police Station.
