All four sabbatical officers have been elected by the students and will be based at the University's Canterbury Campus.

Becci, who graduated with a Joint Honours in Media and Cultural Studies with Film, Radio and Television Studies, said: "As the new student union president, I want to represent students and make their voices heard.

"I hope to make the union more transparent and accountable to encourage students to make themselves heard and be an active student in their Union.

"I plan to continue fostering relations with the local community through the implementation of activities similar to those undertaken last year, such as the litter-pick and I look forward to facing new challenges with the other sabbatical officers."

Bexhill Lions Club organised collections at Tesco's Ravenside store last week to provide funds for both the Alexandra Rose Special Appeal Fund and the Lions Youth Awards Fund.

A total of 516.90 was collected and, with no expenses, both charity funds will benefit greatly from the generosity of the local shoppers.

Avril Earnshaw of the Lions' Youth Committee said: "Over the past few years it's been our pleasure to donate thousands of pounds to support the work of voluntary youth organisations in Bexhill, and we hope to be able to do so in future too.

"However, the Bexhill Lions Youth Awards have been funded by a past legacy which is now running low, so extra money is needed to keep up this valuable work.

"In addition to collections such as that last week, we are also looking for sponsorship from local companies and residents - if you can help, please contact us."

Avril can be reached on 01424 225453 if you would like to discuss support for the Lions Youth Awards.
