Brindt Rigg, 39, described by police as a ‘serial burglar’ admitted breaking into nine homes between July and September last year and stealing hundreds of pounds worth of jewellery and electrical equipment.

Rigg, of Brightling Avenue, Hastings, admitted the offences and also pleaded guilty to a charge of handling stolen goods when he appeared at Lewes Crown Court last week.

Among properties he targeted were homes in Martineau Lane, Fairlight, on July 20; Butchers Lane, Three Oaks, on July 26; Hog Hill, Winchelsea on August 10 and Stonestile Lane, Hastings, on 15 August.

He was arrested after a witness saw him leaving a home he had broken into in Barley Lane, Hastings, in September.

Detective Sergeant Jason Tuck said: “Rigg is a repeat burglar who would doubtless have carried on breaking into homes across the area until he was caught.

“Excellent work by detectives working with scenes of crime officers enabled us to identify Rigg as being the prime suspect for the burglaries and he was caught red handed in our operation.
