Bexhill baby dies of meningitis

A BABY has died just a day before his first birthday in the second meningitis tragedy to hit Bexhill in weeks.

It was revealed the boy had died only18 days after High School student Francesca Ward.

The funeral has taken place.

Like Francesca, the baby suffered meningococcal septicaemia. Francesca was taken ill two days before her 16th birthday.

East Sussex, Brighton and Hove Primary Care Trust issued a statement this week urging the public to remain calm but to stay vigilant.

The baby's identity has not been released by the Trust.

The boy's parents and close contacts have been offered antibiotics. The Trust says this is in line with national guidance.
