Bexhill BNP members' names leaked on to internet

The names of several British National Party (BNP) members from Bexhill have been posted on the internet.

A document apparently listing thousands of members was leaked online in the form of a spreadsheet on the WikiLeaks website.

The document gives names, addresses, home and mobile telephone numbers of apparent party members.

Last year a full list of members was leaked, which contained the names of professors and military figures.

The latest list was put online on Tuesday and contains six Bexhill residents' names, one of whom's membership ended almost two years ago.

One member, who wished not to be named, said: "I am proud to be a member of the BNP and shall not be voting for any other party in the next election.

"The criticism being levied against the party is petty and childish and I cannot even see how it is legal. They (opponents) are running the party down."

Former Rother councillor Keith Standring, who represented Bexhill's Sackville ward on Rother District Council from May 2006 until he resigned in May 2008, joined the BNP following his departure.

His name appeared on the leaked list.

Mr Standring declined to comment when asked about Tuesday's leak when asked by the Observer.

The publication of members' names comes in the same week BNP leader Nick Griffin appeared on BBC's Question Time last night.

The far-right party has recently come under fire for using images of Winston Churchill and wartime insignia during recent European election campaigns.
