Last Saturday'sincident, where the A29 Fontwell Avenue and the B2233 Barnham Road meet, came after the police officers had followed a group of motorcyclists along the A29.

The arrest was the latest result of Sussex Police's road policing unit's Operation Ride initiative.

Supt Paul Morrison, the head of road policing, said: 'Operation Ride is our initiative to reduce the number of riders being killed or seriously injured on the roads of Sussex.

'When we stop riders who not only excessively speed, but mix alcohol with their riding, we have a lethal cocktail of factors which can end in tragedy. Sussex Police are not anti-bike. But we are against those who risk the lives of others.'
