BodyShock rocks dance spectacular

MEMBERS of a Littlehampton youth dance group made their debut in front of a capacity audience at the biggest event of its kind in the south east for years.

BodyShock is based at the Flintstone Centre, but includes dancers from across West Sussex, as well as Littlehampton itself.

The group gave its first public performance at Motiv8 2008 at The Venue in Chichester, in front of a highly appreciative audience of more than 700 young people aged seven to 18.

Other dance groups from across the region taking part were Remix (Revelation Church Chichester), Selsey Wild Cats, Chichester East High, Hip Hop Honez and Fusion (Chichester District Council), 3D (Worthing and Felpham), All Saints (Steyning), New Moves (Chichester Festival Theatre), VIBE (Chichester).

Styles on show included street dance, hip hop and contemporary, and chief choreographer Suzy Mills and Remix manager Claire Strotton, who presented the show said the event had exceeded their expectations.

"These young people have worked really hard preparing for this event," said Suzy. "It's fantastic to see so many family and friends come along to support them.

"It's easy these days to see and hear negative things about young people, but an event like this reminds us that they have so much to give and dance provides the perfect catalyst to bring together positive energy across the communities in a really healthy way."

BodyShock was formed after a series of strenuous auditions to test the young dancers talent and commitment.

Added Suzy: "Its aim is to encourage young talented people to work together exploring the art of dance using different music styles and dance genres to create something unique."

Based at the Flintstone Centre, BodyShock meets weekly under youth worker Stuart Kingsley and is part-funded by the county youth service.
