Bognor Regis schoolgirls set to reunite after 50 years

Former schoolfriends in Bognor Regis are looking forward to seeing each other for the first time in more than 50 years.

The class of 1956 at Westloats Lane Secondary School for Girls is meeting up again on June 19.

The get-together will see classmates from as far afield as New Zealand gather to relive their days in front of the blackboard.

It will take place between 11am and 3pm at the RAFA Club in Waterloo Square, Bognor.

The fourth year pupils were divided into three forms '“ art, home and craft, and music '“ before they left school at 15 to get work.

The idea for the reunion arose after some of the former pupils saw each other while they were out and about around Bognor and mentioned the idea.

One of the organisers, Sally Sheppard (67), said: "Most of those we have contacted have really jumped at the chance of going to a reunion."

Another organiser, Jenny Lane (67), stated: "It's going to be good seeing each other, finding out how we changed and what we have done since we left school."

Both of them remembered their school days for the amount of sport they played and the number of friends they made.

Anyone interested in attending the reunion should contact one of the following former pupils by May 18: Janet Smith (ne Spiers), for 4 Music form, on 01243 824420; Jenny Lane (ne Macintosh), for 4 Art on 01243 261692; Sally Sheppard for 4 Craft, on 01243 828001.
