Bognor Regis woman turns 101 and enjoys Elizabeth House fete

A 101-year-old resident was the oldest person to enjoy the first fete to be held at a Bognor Regis home.

Doris Gibson looked splendid in a red hat and blue cardigan as she delighted in the attractions of the community event at Elizabeth House.

A Punch and Judy show, face painting, a bouncy castle, barbecue, bric-a-brac and other stalls were sited around the home's Victoria Drive grounds.

Fun was provided by the sight of the home manager, Diane Denyer, and chef Eric Homer taking turns in the stocks.

A total of 720 was raised towards a sensory garden to enhance the wellbeing of the residents by enabling them to smell and feel the plants.

Mrs Denyer said the fete was just the start of a series of events she wanted to make the home part of the community.

"I want to encourage people to visit the home," she stated.

She has started coffee mornings for the public from 10am on Tuesdays in the recently-converted coffee shop.

The home received its first permanent residents in March when King's Haven in Pagham closed.

Elizabeth House had previously been lived in for two years by residents of other homes which were being rebuilt or upgraded.
