Books '˜flying' around the county

Hundreds of people recently attended more than 30 Flying Books events in West Sussex and beyond.

Flying Books are a selection of notebooks that arrive in a suitcase. Each one has a title on the label attached, such as ‘A Book of Seasons’ or ‘A Book of Nature’.

People have drawn, written and collaged images of their thoughts, hopes and feelings in their chosen notebook, which then went to destinations throughout the county.

The books will now be exhibited at the following venues:

Bognor Regis and Chichester libraries - Monday November 15 to Monday November 22

Rustington Museum– Monday November 15 to Tuesday November 30

Horsham Library – Saturday November 20 to Saturday November 27

The Hawth Theatre, Crawley – Monday November 22 to Monday November 29

The project is inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to create a visual legacy of how people felt during the build up to the event.

Brad Watson OBE, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Arts and Culture, said: “This is not about being a brilliant artist, it’s a great way to create history, so in years to come the books can be looked at to get an idea of what the atmosphere was like in the run-up to the 2012 Games.”
