Mother’s Union: members congregated at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 2nd April for the Diocesan Festival Service and Commissioning Officers for 2016 – 2019. The Presiding Preacher was The Right Reverend Nicholas Reade . It began with The Procession of the Mother’s Union Diocesan Chaplain, Cannon in Residence, Bishop Nicholas Reade and the Lord Lieutenants from both East & West Sussex and the Deputy Lieutenant, followed by over 36 Banners from the Mother’s Union Branches throughout East & West Sussex. I believe there are about 63 Branches in the County. It was a magnificent sight all the Banners held high managing to avoid hitting the three hanging chandeliers, they moved in two’s along the main Aisle of the Cathedral. It was a moving and thought provoking service and the new Diocesan President, Katherine Anderson was commissioned along with members of the Trustees Board. Chris Emson the departing President had this to say

‘I am very pleased that Katherine is the young and enthusiastic person needed to take over. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last six years.’ During her time as President Chris visited the Mother Union branches in Africa that are supported by Branches in Sussex, here money is raised to train a facilitator to mobilise communities to speak out for their rights, training for someone to support parents through difficult issues and for literacy programmes and more. Mu members offer practical and emotional support for others, raise funds and awareness, offer parenting classes and offer support in Prisons and Hospitals and much more. If you wish to join a Branch Rye and Brede have Branches. Contact Chris Emson 01797 224174 for Rye or Ruth Gasson 01424 882631 or me for Brede
