Welsh Society Event: last week the Mayor of Hastings Bruce Downey and his wife the deputy Mayor Susannah joined the Welsh Society for their Coffee Morning, which was very well supported. Susannah has decided to become a member as she is half Welsh, The Mayor also might join when he has more time.

School Reunion: the turn out could have been better however Richard Moore must be thanked for the tremendous effort he put into the evening. The caterers ladened the table with delicious food and there was much chatter by those who did attend and found their old school friends to catch up with, which was lovely.

BRA RECYCLING ROTHER: Did you know there’s fantastic scheme called the Bra Bank which supports women in Africa by giving them more personal dignity and raises money for Breast Cancer research. You can drop off your unwanted bras (clean and bagged) at the Battle Post Office, using the pink container in the foyer. Have a sort through your knicker drawer and keep the scheme going and tell your friends too. Will take any bra, washed please, but any condition. Please support this fantastic scheme.

Friday 17 October: Pilates is in Udimore Community Hall at 9am. Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. The Autumn Harvest has been gathered in so there is an abundance of new fruit and vegetables on sale. The Wea Practical Gardening: is in Udimore Community Hall, 11.15am – 1.15pm. Brede’s Short Mat Bowlers set up at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 18 October: there is a Craft workshop in Brede Village hall starting at 10am. The young persons flower arranging morning is from 10.30am – 12 noon. The class is for school-aged children who would like to have a go at arranging flowers, it will be held in the Parish Centre near St Georges’s Church, the cost is £3.00 and this will include a container, oasis, tape, foliage and flowers and refreshments. You will need to bring is a pair of strong scissors or secatuers and your friends for this fun session. Rye is holding the fifth Rye Medieval Conference, which stars at 9am the theme, is Hazards of life in late Medieval England. Professors from the Universities of Cambridge, East Anglia Winchester and University College London will all be speaking during the day. All are welcome more details are found on the web page www.ryemuseum.co.uk Booking are being taken by Rye College, Milligan Theatre phone 01797 226728 or email [email protected] Winchelsea Beach Community Club is the venue for Dr Patrick Roper who is a freelance ecologist and who has known Brede Woods for years talk about the woods and the work that is carried out in them. It will be a chance to learn about many aspects of the woodland that is not readily known. The event starts at 2.30pm and no booking is necessary. Northiam Chamber Orchestra and the occasional consort will perform ‘The Creation’ by Haydn this evening is at 7.30pm in Northiam Village Hall. Proceeds from the event will be for the restoration of Northiam Church. Tickets and more information can be obtained by calling Peter Fields 07792 329145. It is the end of Hastings week and Hastings will be crowded this evening with the bonfire boys and girls giving their usual parade followed by the massive bonfire on the beach and a magnificent firework display. Reverend Robin Roberts will take this mornings service at the Broad oak Methodist Church which begins at 10.30am. St Mary’s Church Udimore hold their mornings worship at different times so please look at their Church notice board or in the Parish Magazine. Live music in The Rainbow Trout tonight. The Rockitmen are there at 4pm for your entertainment.

Monday 20 October: Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club: begins at 10.30am – 3.30pm. Please contact Maureen the Organiser for more information phone 01424 883282 or 07850 987120. Rainbows meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall, this afternoon from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Brownies meet from 5pm – 6.30pm for girls 7-11 years old. Beavers are In the Scout Hut and welcome Boys and girls from 6years old they meet from 5.30pm to 6.30pm there are only two places remaining at present. Catherine will soon begin a waiting list. Saturday 25 October: The Friends of St Mary’s Udimore have an evening of Spooky Tales. Geoff Hutchinson will give the history of Halloween in words and music at 6pm in Udimore Community Hall.
