A big thank you to everyone who supported the Admiral Nurses tea afternoon last week. The cakes were fantastic and so many of them, someone must have been extremely busy. To all those who helped with serving, clearing and washing up and especially those who went along and enjoyed the afternoon in the beautiful garden of Lynda & Richard Maude-Roxby, thank you . After just two and a half hours, £821 was raised for The Admiral Nurses of demetia care for poeple in their own homes. A great result.

Thanks to the generosity of the local people the Bur-fest event was a financial success as well as great fun. The hard work that this event entailed was well worth it. Over the week I have received many comments from all ages of those who were there. Things like how the stage was amazing and such a success where it was erected, that the security firm were brilliant, interacting with the crowd meant that there wasn’t the slightest bit of trouble. Congratulations to the whole team for their hard work in the organising of this music event. The sales of T.shirts, bucket donations and an auction raised £1,223, £900 of which will be given to the Teenage Cancer Trust and £323 to Dementia UK. I really hope the village embrace this event and it continues for many years.

Great fun was had by all those who joined the reunion of past pupils from Robertsbridge secondary school. The class of 1975-1980 reminisced and caught up with each other at the Halt in Salehurst. Tonight is quiz night at the pavilion in Burwash Common. These fun evenings are a great success and you can join the fun too. Call Karol Richardson on 01435 883318. All the entry fee goes back in prize money and the licenced bar will be open.

Tomorrow the St Bartholomew’s Church are holding a Picnic in the Park at the Swan Meadow playing fields from 1pm to 4pm. Everyone is invited to go along take your own picnic and enjoy the afternoon among friends. This is an event for the whole family.

At the end of July a joint venture by the Burwash village hall and the Burwash Playing fields association will see Bertie the magician at the Burwash village hall. It is being held on Saturday 26 from 3.30pm until 5pm. Bertis is a member of the prestigious magic circle in London and people who have seen him said he is very good. Tickets will be much sort and will be limited to the number the hall is licenced to hold. They cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. There will be lovely homemade cakes and refreshments during the interval. To get you ticket before too late email [email protected] or call her on 01435 882497. The proceeds will be shared between the hall and the playing fields.

Today & tomorrow The East Sussex Guild of Crafts will be at Bateman’s, National trust home of author Rudyard KIpling. Normal admission applies with exhibition of traditional crafts such as leather, glass, lace, jewellery will be held in the garden of the estate. The exhibition is on from 11am to 5pm

Next weekend The two acre garden at Elphick’s Spring lane Burwash will be open to the public as a pre-taste for the Open garden scheme next year. It will be open from 2pm until 5pm on both Sturday & Sunday. Entry is £3 with a refreshments & home made cakes available. At the beginning of August, Burwash common & Burwash Weald ar holding a World War One commemorative day. There will be an exhibition on memorabilia from that time and they are asking if you have any items you would be willing to loan them, letters, photographs, telegrams, postcards ephemera.
