Metrobus plans to roll out next stop audio announcements to its entire fleet, a spokesman has said.
The bus company’s 20 buses on Fastway routes 10 and 20 have the automated announcements.
Nick Hill, the Crawley bus company’s head of Commercial Development said: “We are planning to roll out audio announcements to the rest of our fleet and are discussing options with suppliers.
“We are pushing our suppliers to provide timescales to deliver this as soon as possible.
“We will get them fitted as soon as they are able to resource it.”
Chris Cheshire, chairman of Crawley’s Town’s Access Group (TAG) said: “It’s great news and the sooner it happens the better.
“There are a number of members of TAG who rely for their independence on Metrobus and that includes people with a variety of disabilities including visual impairment and it will mean a great deal for them to be able to rely on that as an extra tool.
“If you’re not able to control the situation around you it can make you feel very vulnerable and to have to rely on other people increases that sense of vulnerability and dependence.
“What we all want is as much independence as possible but we must feel safe and secure.”
