A large sports store creating 30 jobs in the town centre will open on October 13, Crawley Borough Council has announced.
@crawleybc tweeted: “Hoarding now removed as brand new @DecathlonUK store in Queens Square takes shape. Official opening 13 October”
Body Shop moved from the site to County Mall in 2015.
Kieran O’Shea, of Decathlon, said the new store would help revive the town centre after Crawley people said they were disappointed with the announcement in March.
Store manager Federico Fraguela said: “Crawley has a lot to offer, we saw it as a great opportunity due its great catchment and excellent sport facilities and range of clubs. We very much like all the work that’s due to take place around the town centre too, particularly in Queens Square which will give us a great space to hold community events.”
A borough council spokesman said Decathlon was Europe’s largest sports retailer and worked closely with the local sports clubs, schools and other community groups. It offered opportunities for free sports equipment through competitions and its charitable foundation. She said Decathlon would look to build strong relationships with sporting groups and individuals who could be brand ambassadors.
She added the store was to sell high quality Decathlon brand products for 70 sports over two floors.
She said: “Along with this, Decathlon are looking to build strong relationships with sporting groups and individuals who could be brand ambassadors.”
