Pets Corner wants to move its main office and two warehouses out of Crawley.
Some 60 employees at the company’s head office above its store in Queensway and its Gatwick centres would be moved to Hickstead, near the A23. Its two offices in Brighton would also be relocated to the site.
Dean Richmond, managing director, said jobs could be lost if a planning application to develop Northlands Farm was rejected by Mid Sussex District Council.
He said: “We need to buy a new home urgently (up to 60,000 sq. ft) and Northlands Farm fits the bill perfectly. If it doesn’t happen we will have to move, most probably out of Sussex into the M4 corridor.
“However, if the planning application goes through we will build a new headquarters that would represent one of the most outstanding examples of sustainable and eco-friendly construction and become a home to over 100 existing and newly-recruited staff.
“Having to leave our Sussex base would be an awful wrench for everyone at Pets Corner, not least our many staff who live locally, but we are approaching a time when we may have to think the unthinkable.”
A spokesman for Pets Corner said: “It is estimated that the entire development would generate between 200 and 325 construction jobs over a 24 month construction period, 370 to 465 full-time jobs and approximately £2 million in business rates, of which £1 million per annum would be retained by Mid Sussex District Council.”
