A seven-week gas main replacement project on the A23 has started.
Road lanes have been narrowed and a 20mph speed is in force between the Star Lane and Church Lane junctions in Hooley.
The works started on Monday (July 27).
Access to and from Church Lane and Star Lane will be closed throughout.
Signed diversions are in place.
Highways England Asset Manager Janice Burgess said: “We have been working with Southern Gas Network to ensure that their work is carried out efficiently to minimise the disruption. I advise drivers to plan their journeys to allow extra time.”
SGN Team Manager Willard Kepple said: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. This particular job has been agreed with the local authorities, Highways England and many other interested parties, agencies and organisations following years of planning. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out our essential works.
“We would like to assure everyone that we will do everything we can to minimise disruption and complete our works as quickly as possible. More information is available on our website, where our customer leaflet explains what is happening and when, and includes details of the diversion for motorists.”
