CALL GOES OUT TO SPEAK UP AS AXE HANGS OVER CHURCH

CHRIST Church in Worthing is being threatened with closure.Only three years ago, the congregation raised £70,000 towards the restoration and repair of the Grafton Road building, which is more than 160 years old and Grade II* listed, selling the church hall to provide funds.

But now the Bishop of Horsham, the Rt Rev Lindsay Urwin, wants to declare the church redundant and close it.

The church is part of a town centre ministry that consisted of St Paul's, Holy Trinity and St Matthew's, but this team was reduced to three when St Paul's was closed.
