Care home's talent show raises funds for sensory room

A Crawley Down care home for people with learning disabilities held its third '˜Consensus Got Talent' show earlier this month. Residents of the Consensus Little Smugglers home in Snow Hill and other care homes in the area joined in the fun at Copthorne Village Hall to raise £500 towards a £20,000 sensory room at Little Smugglers.

The event was organised by Hayley Wilkins manager of Tushmore Lane care home, also owned by Consensus.

Hayley spent weeks sourcing fantastic raffle prizes from local businesses, friends and family for the fundraiser.

She had donations from businesses including Felbridge Hotel, Alisun Beauty salon, KP beauty, Crawley Football Club, K2 leisure centre, Haskins garden centre and many more.

She said: “The event is always a huge hit, a real highlight of the year for the people we support. This year we had 19 acts , various singing, dancing, playing keyboard, The talent was outstanding.

“This year we had special guests come and dance from KC dance, Crawley. Kirsty & Kaitlin opened the show with some great street dance.”

Others had renditions of hit songs by artists including Michael Jackson, the Village People and ACDC.

The whole night was in aid of a sensory room for residents at Little Smugglers.

Hayley said: “We raised a fantastic £500 towards #Littlesmugglerssensoryroom. We have now reached just over £11,000 of our £20,000 target which is amazing.

“A huge thank you to everyone that donated prizes, everyone that helped out on the night and special thanks to the Tushmore staff team who assisted with the Bar, Food, Raffle sales and the clearing up of the event.”
