CASH FOR RAIL LINE?

LEWES District Council cabinet members on Thursday next week will consider whether to contribute £25,000 towards a full feasibility study into the possible re-opening of the Lewes to Uckfield railway line.

The line closed in 1969. A preliminary study into its possible re-opening has already taken place. The report remains confidential at the moment but the council's cabinet will be told there is supporting evidence for taking the project through to a full study at a cost of 150,000.

Wealden Council and Crowborough Town Council had offered 25,000 and 15,000 respectively. Other towns and parishes would be asked to contribute.
