Burglars ransacked two homes before making off with cash and a PlayStation 4 games console.
Police were called at 7.09pm on Friday (January 2) after a man returned to his home in Heathcotes, Maidenbower, to find the back door open and his possessions searched.
The householder also reported the back door of his next door neighbour’s property was also open. When officers investigated, they found the second home had also been searched for valuables.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said the break-ins took place some time after 8am that day and that the items so far known to have been stolen included a Playstation 4 and controllers, and a small amount of cash.
He said officers believed both incidents were linked.
They may also be connected to a series of more than 200 burglaries carried out across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London, which are being investigated under the title Operation Smart and included 59 in Sussex, 24 in Surrey, 113 in Kent and nine in London since September.
The spokesman added: “Police have conducted house-to-house enquiries in the Heathcotes area.”
