Catsfield

Craft Fair: There will be a Craft Fair of local work in the Village Hall on Saturday 25th October from 10am till 3pm. There will be a variety of crafts for sale including jewellery, textiles, ceramics, hand knits, plants and art and refreshments will be available, including speciality teas. There will also be a raffle with the proceeds going to Cancer Research and the Alzheimer’s Society.

John Bremer: It is with great sadness that we learn from Vanessa of the death of her Dad, John Bremer on 4th October. He had been in hospital for the last eight weeks following a fall and his funeral will take place at Eastbourne Crematorium on 24th October at 10.45 am. There will be so many Catsfield residents who will remember him as the landlord of ‘The White Hart’ Catsfield with his wife Peggy, for twenty-seven years – it was the end of an era when they left the village and we all send our sincere condolences and love to the family.

CADS: The Catsfield Amateur Dramatic Society have started rehearsals for this year’s pantomime entitled ‘Sinbad and the Big Eruption’. Tickets will go on sale on 1st November from Catsfield Village Stores for performances on 4th, 5th and 6th December in the Village Hall. Book early to be sure of a seat for the best show of the year!

Sports News: Sadly, there was no football last Saturday, as Punnetts Town couldn’t field a team. It looks as though they will leave the league, which will leave it sadly depleted. We look forward to tomorrow’s game when we go to Sandhurst to play them in the next round of the Sussex Junior Cup, kick off at 2.30pm.

Farming: The planting of field beans has been halted with the rain making the fields far too wet.

Harvest Gifts: Several lucky village households received visits from the children of Catsfield School with their welcome boxes of Harvest Festival goodies. Apart from the pleasure of looking into the boxes to see what they contain, there is the added bonus of meeting the children, having little chats and watching them walk through the village with their teachers. What a splendid tradition this has become.

Christmas Market: Make a note in your diary of the St Laurence Church Christmas Market on Saturday 29th November. Any donations of raffle or tombola prizes or items to sell on the stalls will be gratefully received. There will be more details next month.
