Celtic remembrance concert

The Robertson Pipe and Drum Academy is to hold a celtic remembrance concert on the evening of November 11.

The event will take place from 7-10.30pm at St Mary Magdalene church hall.

Founder member Pat Donoghue said the concert was "to honour those who serve, have served, and gave their lives for our country."

The guest stars will be two pipers from the Manawatu Pipe Band of New Zealand, and the evening will include pipes and drums, songs and poetry. There will be a buffet during the intermission and a raffle also.

Tickets for the concert are 3.00, 2.50 for the buffet and can be bought at Edinburgh Bagpipe Company, The Gael in Sea Rd.

Pat said: "Tickets may be available on the door, but they are going fast and in April at the last concert, it was standing room only by 7pm.

"The standards from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal British Legion will honour us with their attendance.

"It's a not-to-miss concert for the lover of celtic music."

Pat helped set up the Robertson Pipe and Drum Academy with Robert Reid 18 months ago and this summer they organised a Pipefest through Bexhill town centre which proved a highlight of the year.

The massed pipe band parade raised over 2,000 and the academy was able to present three cheques of 433 each to their chosen charities - SSAFA Family Help, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the NSPCC.

Pat was thrilled with the success of the Pipefest and said: "This year we had someone who does not want to be named helped by the pipe fest..he joined the pipe band and donated 1500 towards next year's pipe fest, to make sure there was enough money there for it to go ahead, and do all the things we couldn't afford last year, like advertising campaigns."

She said of the cheque presentation: "It really made all the hard work worthwhile to know that amount of generosity was generated in Bexhill by people doing what they love doing."
