Council actionover ‘eye-sore’

Earlier this month councillors voted unanimously to refuse planning permission for the holiday home at Rocklands Park.

The square building, which sits above the Ecclesbourne Glen beauty spot, can be clearly seen by walkers using the country park.

Hastings Borough Council is now taking enforcement action against the holiday home,which they say was built without planning permission.

A council spokesperson explained : “The planning committee made their feelings about this development quite clear when they met.

“Every member of the committee voted to support our officer’s recommendation to refuse planning permission for the holiday home, which has already been partially built.

“We have therefore now issued an ‘enforcement notice’ against the owners of Rocklands Holiday Park, effectively requiring them to remove the building as it currently stands.

“The Country Park is much loved by residents and visitors alike, and we simply will not tolerate unauthorised developments within it.”

Councillor John Hodges, said: “This application sought to place a visual abomination in the midst of an unspoilt panorama. Would you expect to encounter such a monstrosity on the slopes of the Great Gable or Scafell Pike as you gazed in awe across the Lake District?

Cllr Michael Edwards said: “It’s a monstrosity, something that might have been built on the coast of Norway in 1943.”
