COUNTY NEWS: Man died and another seriously injured in crash

Police have today confirmed a man has died and another is in hospital with serious injuries following a collision near Chichester early this morning (July 6).

Emergency services were called to Common Road, Funtington at 12.02am where a red Seat Leon heading east had collided with a westbound blue Peugeot 406.

The driver of the Seat, a 42-year-old man from Fishbourne, died at the scene.

A 67-year-old man from Chichester, who was driving the Peugeot, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with multiple serious injuries.

He was described by police as being in a serious, but stable condition on Monday morning.

The road was completely blocked by the collision and was closed until just after 5.30am to allow rescue and recovery work to take place and for engine fluids to be cleaned from the road surface.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen either vehicle in the area in the time leading up to it is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Foley.
