Crawley District Commander Chief Inspector Dave Padwick has taken over the same role in Mid Sussex. The areas had always been policed independently.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “This change is purely in management currently, but is key to the longer term plans under the Local Policing Programme which aims to deliver an affordable and effective policing service in response to the challenges faced by policing both locally and nationally.”

Mr Padwick said: “I am keen to ensure that my priority is on matters that are based on intelligence-led policing, focusing on where there is the most threat, risk and harm, in order to keep the communities of Crawley and Mid Sussex safe and protect the most vulnerable.

“Pulling together the resources of Crawley and Mid Sussex will result in a more agile and flexible policing response which will ensure that we can really focus on those who do the most harm in our communities. I am really looking forward to working with our partners to make Mid Sussex an even safer place.”
