'˜For Crawley, By Crawley' - the Crawley Festival returns next month

This year’s festival begins on with ‘Gatwick Airport High Street Live’, a free event from 2pm to 9.30pm showcasing local artists and groups. The headline act is Strobe, with supporting acts including Faux Falls, Stop Press, Glowing Sun and Wednesday Night Project. As the name implies, the event is in High Street, and is sponsored by Gatwick Airport.

The ever-popular Silver Birch singers are performing at St Johns Church from 12.30pm on June 13. The free event has a French theme this year – Oh La La!

On Thursday June 16 West Sussex Music are holding their 50 year celebration concert from 7pm at the Hawth. Tickets are available at the Hawth box office. Come along and listen to some of the county’s many talented young people.

A statement from the organisers said: “Saturday 18 June sees the culmination of the Festival with ‘Mainstage’ in the Memorial Gardens from 12.30 to 5.00pm. This is another free event and as well as providing musical entertainment there are art workshops, DJ skills workshop, dance workshop, a children’s play area, street theatre, aspects of healthy lifestyle.

“There are craft, food and beer stalls and also the ever popular Cultural Kitchen which is an opportunity to see prepared and then to eat different foods from around the world. If you like your food this is not to be missed. On stage the headline act is The Outfit.

“The same evening at the Hawth Theatre there will be performances of ‘The Armed Man’ by Karl Jenkins and Haydn’s ‘Mass in a Time of War’. They are being performed under the heading ‘War and Peace – A Choral Concert’

“Two well-known and much loved choirs, the Weald Choir and the Concordia Singers are joining forces to mark the hundredth anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

“The show commences at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the Hawth Box Office. Another enjoyable evening of high quality musicianship and singing. This is another event which Crawley Festival is pleased to support.

“Crawley Festival has as its motto – ‘For Crawley, By Crawley’ and this year’s programme of events is testimony to that saying.

“We are also pleased to have St Catherine’s Hospice as the charity we are supporting.”
