Crawley dance school joins Children in Need world record attempt

Thirty-seven dancers ranging from five years through to 60 years old from Desire2Dance joined together on Sunday November 18 to take part in a nationwide tapathon.

The world record they attempted was the largest number of people doing the same tap routine at the same time across various venues.

The Mayor of Crawley and MP Henry Smith come along to support the dancers.

Kayleigh, Desire2Dance principal, said: “I personally was full of pride having worked on the routine since May with my students.

“Doing the tap routine knowing we had raised a good amount of money for a fantastic cause whilst seeing all my students so happy and enjoying themselves made me so proud and I cannot wait to take part in the event next year.”

After they danced Desire2Dance held a cake sale to raise extra funds for Children in Need.

Alongside this Desire2Dance allowed students to wear pyjamas to classes all week to raise money for Children in Need.

So far they have raised £1300.

Although they don’t yet know if the record has been broken, the group said they had an ‘extremely fun day’.

Kayleigh added: “We have classes in ISTD Ballet, Modern, Tap and Zumba at Bewbush Barn Church starting from walking all the way through to adults.

“It’s never too late to start dancing, we have classes suitable for all levels.

“I would love to make Tap dancing a bigger dance style in the community.”
