Crawley Festival chefs will be able to cook with gas thanks to a £2,250 borough council grant.

The Mayor of Crawley will open the week-long celebration of the town’s culture at 11am in Queens Square tomorrow (Saturday June 20).

The Cultural Kitchen cooks will showcase culinary delights from around the world as part of the festival’s Mainstage Event in Memorial Gardens on Saturday (June 27).

The cooking demonstrations, food tastings and recipes from several Crawley communities, including Caribbean, Polish, Brazilian, African and Tamil, will run from 12pm to 4pm.

Michael Jones, Cabinet member for Community Engagement, said: “The Cultural Kitchen is always popular and our grant will enable the event to build on past successes and make this the best year yet!”

A council spokesman said: “Mainstage is the finale event for the Crawley Festival. There are live performances all day and many activities and workshops to try.

“All of this is free and makes a great family day out. Visit for more information.

“Grants can make a big difference to community groups and charities.”
