Crawley firefighters display wrecked car outside County Mall

Crawley firefighters displayed a wrecked car outside County Mall as part of their anti drink-driving campaign.

A fire engine, the car and passenger rescue equipment were on show in Haslett Avenue West from 11am to 1pm today (Saturday December 19).

Children had fun being allowed in the fire engine while firefighters spread the safety message ahead of the Christmas and News Years Day celebrations.

Red Watch firefighter Simon Wenham, who organised the event, said: “We used it as a visual aid, drawing people in to ask us questions about what we were doing.

“It went really well, it was amazing - lots of people talking to us, everyone was happy and saying how good it was that we were doing it.

“It’s just trying to grab people and get that image in their mind.”
