Crawley footballers' marathon match for a good cause

More than 40 people have agreed to take part in a 24-hour game, which organiser Rob Temple hopes will be played at Crawley Town’s Checkatrade.com Stadium.

But Rob, from Crawley, said nearly £1000 needs to be raised to cover the costs of holding the match at the stadium.

He said: “I have spoken to Crawley Town and they said it is going to cost £500 to rent out the court and £460 to supervise the event.

“All I want is for this event to go ahead and to raise money.”

The 31-year-old has already received support from Crawley-based recruitment business Corrigan Bentley, who have stumped up £500 to cover the costs.

He has also recruited 43 players - most of whom play for teams in the Mid Sussex Football League - to take part in the friendly, which is due to take place in August.

Rob said: “People close to me have had cancer, some have survived but some have died.

“Someone did a 24-hour hockey match which I thought was quite a feat. I thought me and my friends love football, I’ve been playing since I was five.

“It is something a bit out the box and I have 43 people willing to take part.”

Local businesses have been invited to donate towards the cost of supervising the match, £460.
