A Crawley wheelchair user with spina bifida is aiming to complete a half marathon with a difference later this month.

Paul Cook, 48, from Tilgate, aims to complete 52 laps around Worthing Leisure Centre as part of the SASBAH Wheelchair Challenge.

SASBAH is staging the charity event between 11am and 3pm on Saturday August 29, as part of its birthday celebrations.

Paul said: “It has always been one of my goals to enter a half marathon for many years and this will be my very first one. To make this a bit harder and more of a challenge for myself, I will be attempting to do this marathon in a standard everyday wheelchair (not a light weight sports chair). The money that I will be raising will help people who suffer with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.”

Rom Sanglaji, SASBAH CEO, said: “Our 50th anniversary is all about raising awareness and highlighting positivity around disability and Paul is a shining example of that.”
