Crawley Borough Council is to roll out a pilot scheme which will provide 40 off-site parking places for Crawley Hospital staff.

The spaces will be provided at the Orchard Street multi-storey car park in the town centre.

After agreeing a contract with NHS Property Services, the council will take over the management of the hospital’s car park from April 1.

Remedial works to lines and signs to make the hospital car park compliant with council legislation will start on March 2.

Cllr Chris Oxlade, Cabinet member for Community Engagement, said: “Hospital parking is horrendous and this deal will mean that many more spaces are available to them, while staff are able to park in close proximity.”

Cllr Colin Lloyd, Cabinet member for Environment, said the agreement would help those in most need to park close to the hospital.

Barry Young, chief financial officer for Crawley Clinical Commissioning Group, which commissions NHS services at the hospital, said: “NHS Crawley CCG has been working closely with Crawley Borough Council and NHS Property Services to ensure that access to NHS services at Crawley Hospital is constantly improved so our patients get the best possible care.

“Alongside this we know we also need to look after hardworking NHS staff and ensure we provide safe, convenient parking arrangements for all.”
