Football League restrictions have meant Crawley Town have missed out on signing Robbie Willmott on loan from Ebbsfleet United.
Red tape due to the winger currently playing in Conference South has left Reds frustrated at missing out on the former Cambridge, Luton and Newport County man for a second time.
Mark Yates revealed earlier today in his press conference that he thought a deal was all-but done for the quick wide man, but Football League rules have prevented the paperwork being completed.
Willmott has worked under Crawley assistant manager Jimmy Dack at Newport and Reds were interested in him over the summer.
A Reds statement read: “Crawley Town can confirm that due to the restriction in the Football League regulations relating to loan transfers, we were unable to complete the emergency loan signing of Ebbsfleet United winger Robbie Willmott.
“Mark Yates was hopeful of being able to complete the signing on Thursday, hence why he refers to it in his programme notes, which went to print earlier today in readiness for Saturday’s game against Bristol Rovers.
“We’d like to place on record our appreciation to Ebbsfleet United for their understanding after the emergency loan signing could not proceed as originally hoped.”
