Crawley man found guilty of making sheep suffer

A man has been found guilty of hitting, kicking and stabbing a sheep which was being kept at Tilgate Park Nature Centre.

Matthew Dean, 18, of Whittington Road, Tilgate, had denied one count of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in October 2014.

A court spokesman said Horsham magistrates found him guilty and have released him on conditional bail to be sentenced at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on March 22.

He was not to contact two people and not go to Tilgate Park.

Nature Centre staff found the young semi-wild male Boreray sheep savaged and burned in the woods on October 16 2014.

Dean was jointly accused over the killing with Kieran Taylor, 18, of Holbein Road, Tilgate, who pleaded guilty to the charge and one count of arson.
