Crawley Town have missed out on the capture of striker Rhys Murphy who has joined National League side Forest Green Rovers in a shock move.
Rumours in Lancashire yesterday appeared to suggest that the 25-year-old could be set to return to Reds.
The Shoreham-born forward had a successful loan spell at the Checkatrade Stadium last season and was top of the fans’ wish list this summer.
But National League side Rovers, who missed out on promotion in the play-offs last year, have announced they have completed the transfer of Murphy from League One club Oldham Athletic for a ‘nominal fee’.
All the pieces in jigsaw seemed to point to the fact that Murphy was likely to become a Crawley player, but Rovers have pulled off a major coup.
